It is with great sadness we announce that Łukasz Pikier Sławiński, polish mathematician, theoretician and innovator of bridge passed away, April 22, at the age of 76.

His funeral service will be held at 1100hrs on Monday 6 May Saint Charles Boromeo Church in Warsaw Powązki, Powązkowska 14 Street, Warsaw, Poland.

Pikier is a compound of two Polish words:

pik (from French pique) + kier (from French coeur)

Pronounce it like English:  peak–year

Lukasz = First name (Lucas) of the editor and author of Pikier

Pronounce it like English:  woo–cash

Slawinski = Surname of the editor and author of Pikier

Pronounce it like English:  swa-veegn-ski  ( gn as in French d’Artagnan )
